TechPong 2016: A Smashing Evening for Charity

Ryan Jones October 26, 2016

Do you hear that sound? Ping. Pong. Ping. Pong. That’s the sound of Vancouver’s tech community training for the most tremendous table tennis tournament of 2016, TechPong! Kicking off at 6 pm on November 15, at Imperial Vancouver, TechPong promises to be bigger and more exciting, while raising a huge amount for charity. But don’t take my word for it, you can see it on my face in the video:

This year’s tournament will see longstanding competitors like Unbounce and Hootsuite going head-to-head against newcomers like Microsoft and BroadbandTV in both singles and doubles brackets. Each team is raising at least $1,500 for the charity of their choice, which has made a big difference to past beneficiaries like PeaceGeeks and The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre Association To date, TechPong has raised close to$150,000!

Chimp hosted an internal tournament last week to determine our best player. When the dust settled, our champion was named. Edward Lee will represent Chimp in the singles bracket:

The internal tournament was tons of fun and a great fundraising opportunity. Competitors and spectators contributed to the cause for the privilege to watch or cheer on the combatants. Not a ponger? No problem! Pick up a ticket here and join us for beer, snacks, and the craziest live sporting event of the year, hosted by the world famous El Garzita. Bring a date, bring your family, bring a cheering section for your company’s team. And don’t forget to dress up in your best East Van ping pong costume - think Wimbledon meets Mad Max.
